Today's recipe is a savory snack item from Andhra Pradesh. Chakodi is made with rice flour and spices. The interesting part of making this snack is shaping them. This is the first time, i made this snack and we love it a lot. It's almost similar to the one we used to buy at sweet stall.
In shops, Chakodi are in bright red color, may be they use artificial color or kashmiri chili powder. I didnt use food color here, if you wish you can use it. Now let see the procedure

Ingredients

Rice Flour - 1 cup
Moong Dal - 1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Salt - to taste
Chili powder - 1 tsp
Cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
Oil for frying

Procedure

Soak the moog dal for 1/2 hr. Heat the water with moong dal ,salt & ghee.

When the water about to boil (you can see small bubbles at the bottom), add the flour, switch off the flame and mix it vigorously.

Allow the flour to cool, then add chili powder, cumin seed and kneed it well to form dough.

Now take small portion of dough, roll into rope like shape and then make small circle by joining the edges.

Do the same for the remaining dough, heat the oil and fry them until the "shh" sound ceases.

Tasty & Crispy Andhra Murukku is ready.

Notes
  • Oil should be hot before adding the chakodi
  • If you wish, you can use 1/2 tsp of sesame seed.
  • You can use butter instead of ghee.
